BEING A GENTLEMAN
Being a gentleman
is not something
you
switch
on and off, it’s not
something
that you can
achieve
in a day. It’s a lifestyle, it spins around the word ‘respect’. Although it is a reputation that has almost gone into extinction, I’m hopeful it will make a comeback. I've done the tedious task of sampling ideas through a face 2 face communication, chatting and gathering information from the vast internet. Below are some ageless tips on how to be a gentleman. DEFINE YOUR STYLE In this 21st century being a gentleman has evolved more than the usual look of suit, tie, polished shoe…and stuffy. It’s all about attitude and how you manage yourself. Choose cloths that match your own personality and lifestyle. Don’t just go around buying cloths you think you should. Otherwise, you may as well put a placard around your neck that says “I don’t know who I am” KEEP YOUR HYGIENE IN CHECK Lot of effort is required in your appearance. You need to always look good. In other word don’t smell. BE A GROWN UP Always act matured. That doesn't mean you throw away your sense of humor, but learn to discern things far beyond the surface. Your social accounts tell a lot about you. Do well to put off those annoying photos of you online, you obviously don’t know who is snooping on you. (Maybe your Boss or that girl you've been after) KEEP LANGUAGE PG-13 Try all you can to reduce or exterminate the use of the 'F word' or other vulgar and annoying slang. They are obviously a gigantic no no in professional setting. The more you use these words in your personal life the more it becomes a habit Believe me it won’t be easy to get rid of in professional and formal settings. CONNECT WITH PEOPLE Be approachable, always wear a smiling face, say hello to strangers while walking pass them. FIND YOUR PURPOSE What do you want? What do you live for? What are you passionate about? Yes, define them all and you’ll feel much brighter. BE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT Don’t be a feeble person who can’t stand on his own. If you want the respect of others, know what you want and what you don’t. Don’t let anyone push you around because you are over committed to them. Always knowing how to say NO is one of the best thing you can do for yourself. HOLD THE DOOR OPEN Holding the door open for people is a gentle man’s calling card. It’s one of the subtle yet powerful ways to show your consideration for others…. Game. Seth. Match. KEEP YOUR PROMISES Being a gentleman revolves around “respect”. Learn to respect other’s time and also keep to what you say. When you have an appointment to meet someone at a certain time, don’t be late. If you promise you’ll help someone out with something. Make sure you do it. RETURN FAVORS’ It’s all about little things; learn to always raise the value of the lives of those you care about. PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF Your home, office, car should always be clean. It leaves a good impression on anyone that comes in contact with you. If people discern that you are very neat, they will always act and try to meet up to your standard when around you. BE YOU. As you strive to imbibe these tips, never forsake your real identity. Being at ease with who you are is the sign of a true gentleman. Don’t try to fuse everything all at once. Take your time, find the balancing point. You can be a real gentleman while you still maintain your own personality.....
